In this era of internet, the access to medical knowledge has become very easy. But in doing so people can get easily misguided while interpreting those content which is put largely as purpose of general aspects rather than to get applied on an individual.
Diabetes is known to mankind for centuries, medical science has progressed significantly in diagnosing and managing the disease. Still in country like India, if we look at the data, we still fell behind other developed world in avoiding the diabetes related complications and deaths, namely heart diseases, foot infections, kidney diseases, neurogical diseases etc.
People started realizing today that managing diabetes is not only about controlling just sugars, but also to avoid or delay its complications, which requires on the part of doctor and patient both to monitor sugars at regular intervals and timely screen for complications depending on patient profile. So it’s all about taking the proper steps before it gets worse.
It is not uncommon to see, patients becoming relax after initial control of sugars. They also stop medicines of their own without discussing with their health care provider. Many of those patients do develop life threatening complications down the line and make the life worse and vulnerable. We should also aim to spread the authentic knowledge to the community which can help them taking proper decision to manage their own condition in better way.
In today’s era the dictum holds very true in term of diabetes that “prevention is better than cure.” we all must thrive more on preventive medicine rather than allow disease to even develop or complicate.
